HOW DOES THE PUMPSPY BATTERY BACKUP SYSTEM CONNECT TO THE PUMPSPY MONITORING SERVICE?
The PumpSpy Battery Backup System contains a cellular data module, just like your mobile phone. This module connects directly to PumpSpy software as soon as the system is powered-on.

HOW DO I KNOW MY SUMP PUMP IS WORKING?
Your main sump pump plugs into the PumpSpy Battery Backup System. PumpSpy then keeps track of your main sump pump cycles, running time, amp draw and other parameters. PumpSpy checks on your pump so you don’t have to. If you don’t receive a PumpSpy alert, don’t bother your pumps. If your PumpSpy system displays all green LEDs, don’t bother your pumps. You can login to your PumpSpy account and see current information anytime.

HOW LONG DOES THE PUMPSPY BATTERY BACKUP SYSTEM RUN ON A BATTERY CHARGE?
This is a tricky question. In a typical installation, the PumpSpy backup system will cycle 2,000 times with a fully charged, 75-amp/hr. 12-volt battery. This translates into roughly 13,000 gallons of water pumped. If the backup pump never shuts off during a power outage, the battery will last 5 1/2 to 6 hours. If the backup pump runs once every minute, the battery will last 2 days. Every home is a little different.

DOES THE PUMPSPY BATTERY BACKUP SYSTEM USE MY WIFI, INTERNET OR CELL PHONE CONNECTION?
No. The PumpSpy Battery Backup System automatically connects to the PumpSpy network using it’s built-in cellular data connection. No additional equipment or configuration is necessary.

WHAT IF MY SUMP PUMP STOPS WORKING?
Every PumpSpy Battery Backup System includes a backup pump. If the main sump pump has a problem, PumpSpy automatically activates the backup pump and will send alerts via text message, email and the PumpSpy App – describing the problem. The backup pump will take over until the main sump pump is repaired or replaced.

I SAW OTHER SUMP PUMP PRODUCTS THAT CAN TEXT ME. WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THOSE AND PUMP SPY?
Other available text-capable sump pump devices only do one thing: send you a text message when water reaches a certain level in the sump basin. They don’t do anything else. These devices give you a few minutes notice that you’re about to flood. PumpSpy is the only product available that gives you up to the minute information on how your sump pump and backup system is working. With a PumpSpy system installed, you can check on your sump pump anytime, anywhere. PumpSpy gives you total peace of mind.

HOW MUCH WATER CAN THE PUMPSPY BACKUP PUMP?
Many battery backup pumps are actually bilge pumps designed to pump water out of the side of a boat, which you can’t trust to keep your basement dry. The PumpSpy backup pump is equivalent of a 1/3 to 1/2 hp sump pump, and pumps more water per hour than any other battery backup pump. See chart below for specific performance data.

HOW CAN I TEST MY PUMPS?
You never have to. PumpSpy sends all systems a self-test command three times per week. The self test includes cycling the backup pump and measures the battery health.

HOW CAN I CHECK ON MY SYSTEM?
Install the free PumpSpy App on your device, or log into pumpspy.com. You can see the real-time status of your system and all individual components. You don’t need to go down in the basement to check on your sump pump anymore.

CAN I USE THE BATTERY FROM MY OLD BATTERY BACKUP PUMP?
PumpSpy recommends installing a new 12V deep cycle SLA or Gel battery (75 amp/hr or greater) when the system is installed. We recommend Pump Spy’s 12V SLA Deep cycle maintenance free battery. You can use any 12V deep cycle battery with your PumpSpy system. However, a poorly maintained battery will compromise performance and regularly fail self-tests.

CAN THE PUMPSPY MONITORING SERVICE MAKE CHANGES TO MY PUMPSPY BATTERY BACKUP SYSTEM?
Yes. PumpSpy software can initiate system self-tests, update operating parameters and run diagnostic tests.

WILL THE PUMPSPY BATTERY BACKUP SYSTEM WORK WITH MY EXISTING SUMP PUMP?
Yes. Any 120v primary sump pump is compatible with the PumpSpy Battery Backup System. PumpSpy recommends Richtech Industries’ PitBoss sump pumps for maximum reliability.

CAN I HAVE OTHER PEOPLE RECEIVE MY ALERTS, TOO?
Sure. You can have your PumpSpy alerts sent to as many people as you like. You need to know their email address for them to receive emails. To receive text alerts, you will need their cell phone number.

WHAT IF THE POWER GOES OUT?
The PumpSpy Battery Backup System continues to work in the event of a power outage. The backup pump works on battery power and so does the cellular data connection.

WHAT MAKES PUMPSPY BETTER THAN MULTIPLE SUMP PUMPS IN ONE BASIN?
Multiple sump pumps certainly are good protection from flooding due to pump failure. But, how do you know if all the pumps are working? You have to open the basin and manually test each pump. When you have a PumpSpy Battery Backup System, you have two pumps that you know are always working, because we automatically test them for you on a regular basis.

CAN I CONNECT MY EXISTING BACKUP PUMP TO A PUMPSPY BATTERY BACKUP SYSTEM?
The PumpSpy Battery Backup System includes a backup pump. Other manufacturer’s battery backup pumps are not compatible with the PumpSpy Battery Backup System at this time.

WHAT’S THE WARRANTY ON A PUMPSPY BATTERY BACKUP SYSTEM?
The PumpSpy Battery Backup System controller and battery backup pump carry a 3-year manufacturer’s warranty.
