How to Avoid Water in My Basement?

There are a lot of things that professional contract plumbers can do to help prevent water from getting into your basement; you can learn more about those services here. But what about what you can do yourself?

How Can I Prevent Water from Leaking into My Basement?

Gutter Maintenance

The first thing you can do is to ensure that your gutters are cleaned and properly maintained. If you notice that your downspout lines are dumping water out close to the base of your home, you can redirect that water away from your home with an extension piece.

Proper Grading

Check the grading around your home to make sure you have the proper grade. If you have some settling around the house or the basement is settled, you can bring that grade back up.

Window Wells

If you have window wells on the outside of your home, make sure to keep those cleaned out as well. There should also be stone layering the bottom or have a small drain system to move the water away from the window. If those irrigation systems are clogged with leaves or debris, it could cause water to leak into your basement.
